Come along with us on this 5 day off-road motorbike tour into the heart of Lao Cai! We’ll take you through Central and Northeastern Vietnam, cross path with the many ethnic minorities up North, eat, live and sleep as they do, and learn their culture and art. We’ll brave rocky mountain dirt-road, tread through beautiful off-road tracks amid unabashed and unadulterated nature, or put the pedal to the metal on long liberating highways. This will be a tour you won’t forget anytime soon!
Day 1: Hanoi - Thac Ba – Vu Linh (180 km; 5 hours)
We have choices for you! We have up to 80% off-road track along the Red River dyke for however you want to kick off this 5 day adventures.
After breakfast at a local restaurant (and I mean LOCAL, as in you won’t find anything this good on the internet), we’ll set off on your prefered route to Thac Ba lake. We’ll get there at about 4:30 pm, just in time to take a small boat ride around the largest man-made lake in the city. We’ll end the day with a Black Dao family in a village nearby.
Homestay with local ethnic Black Dao people.
Day 2: Thac Ba – Luc Yen - Xin Man (210 km; 6 hours)
We can sneak in quite a bit of off-road riding for you today, but it’s strictly for the experienced.
Anyway, after a heart European style breakfast, we’ll say goodbye to the friendly and lovely Dao family and take a ride around the lake and emerald palm tree forest. We’ll then stop for lunch at the town of Quang Binh. After lunch, we’ll tackle old winding track through the old forest that’ll surely give you a challenge. We can drop by a small waterfall in the forest to shake off the summer heat before taking our day’s rest at a small hotel in Xin Man.
Day 3: Xin Man – Bac Ha - Sapa (220 km; 7 hours)
We’ll set off on the Love road to Sapa. “Love road” simply because it doesn’t just lead us through a barrage of beautiful rice terrace, old forests, and springs, but also across countless market fairs, cultural signatures of the Northern mountain minorities: Bac Ha fair, Can Cau fair, Nhung Khau Nhin fair, and Cao Son fair. Held for only one day every week, these aren’t just market fairs for buyers and peddlers, but also romantic rendezvous for local lovers. This stretch of road along the daily life of the local ethnic is one of the highlights of our trip. For the night, you can take your pick between a hotel for quiet relaxation or a homestay for more memorable time with the friendly people here.
Day 4: Sapa - Than Uyen - Mu Cang Chai - Nghia Lo (227 km; 6 hours)
We have a plethora of destinations for you to choose from.
We can walk around town, peep the local life, enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee so strong it’ll jack your brain to top gear. Then there’s the spectacular O Quy Ho pass, with cloud-hugged mountains and fog covered valleys, the Mu Cang Chai rice terraces - proposed world heritage. We’ll take it slow, and enjoy the scenery on the way. Gasp-worthy views and abundant photo ops. The road is long, but you’ll feel revitalized rather! We’ll end the day at a guesthouse.
Day 5: Nghia Lo – Thanh Son – Thu Cuc - Hanoi (200 km, 6 hours)
Last day of our trip, we suggest that you let our guide pick the route for you. It’s been a long and tiring 5 days, and so a moderate mix of back-roads and off-road tracks would ensure the safety for everybody as we make out ways back into the city just in time for the rush hour… or beer hour.
