Bac Ha Market is nestled in the mountains of northern Vietnam and is one of the most colorful and unique ethnic markets in Southeast Asia. Every Sunday, ethnic minorities from surrounding mountain villages walk, motorbike, ride a horse or water buffalo to socialize, eat, drink, smoke, trade to buy and trade local products.
On Sunday’s Bac Ha Market becomes a blur of ethnic minorities including Flower Hmong (Red Hmong), Black Dao, Tay, Nung, La Chi, Phu La and other minority groups. Historically, the market centered on the horse trade but today it’s common see buffalo, cows, goats, fish and other livestock being sold and bartered.
